The combination of forms along Lancaster Avenue reaffirm Wilson Hall as the iconic symbol of the school, and establish the addition as an investment in future generations.

Upper School
The Haverford School

Wilson Hall, the building that founded The Haverford School in 1903, is the most important physical symbol of the School’s long tradition. This project restores the historic stone building and adds a prominent new building that together house the Upper School, the Severinghaus Library and central school administration. As the final project in a ten year expansion plan, the Upper School and Administration Building transforms the public presence of the School on Lancaster Avenue and uses design to teach the students about environmental responsibility.

The new building, including Wilson Hall, is organized around a central circulation spine that is designed to create the visual character and energy of a village ‘street’. On each floor, a series of informal gathering areas, computer pods and display spaces encourage interaction between students, faculty and administrators. A monumental stair and a series of two story spaces along the ‘street’ visually and physically connect the floors.
